FRIDAY’S MAKE UP RACE, ROUND#2;  ROLLIN’ UNDER THE LIGHTS!

On Thursday after a long drive down to Topeka, Josh and crew got their pit area set up with a full length 48’x 20’ awning.  Which being in the shade was necessary, since the weather was nearly 85 degrees at 9:00am  “We all need to keep ourselves hydrated, this is going to be a long weekend having three races.”  When asked how he felt about driving at night Josh said, “I’m excited about the track layout, its very technical with a high speed big jump going out of the turn one oval, and having to slow the truck down enough for the 180 degree turn back, is going to be tricky.  The ground down here is very tacky it should hold the moisture good and be fast tonight.”  Josh was right it was tacky, too tacky.  Josh got one of his best starts of the season, starting in the 16th position fighting his way up to 7th by the third lap and hot on the heels of 6th when he was going into the sharp turn in the back area off of turn one.  “I noticed that a rut was developing back there, but it was very hard to see.  There wasn’t enough lighting to really see where the rut was until, you were in it.  I came into the turn trying to straddle the rut, but ended up getting caught in it,  unfortunately I was in between shift points so I couldn’t get the power down to the wheels in time to keep the truck from rolling.”  Josh ended up having a small ¾ of a rollover.  “I was hoping that the truck would have rolled all the way over, I would have kept on going, but no dice, so there I sat.”  Finally after 2 laps down the track workers got Josh back on his wheels and finished the race in 15th place.  “I was really happy with the way the truck handled, I’m getting more comfortable with the truck and I know that I have just as good of a truck as the front runners.”

SATURDAY’S NIGHT RACE, ROUND #7;  SPIN ME ROUND!

With the truck having a lot of side bite in the tire, Josh elected to put a different style groove on his BFGoodrich tires.  He also debuted his new Beadlocks on his wheels which were ok’d by CORR officials in Crandon.  “I thought that I was getting too much side bite with the track being so tacky.”  That being said Josh went out and started the race in 16th position, of which he made his way up to 6th by the third turn.  Half the reason why Josh got such a great start was that one of the racers in the front, decided to start the race in reverse.  “I’m not going to say any names ….cough cough Kreuger cough cough.  Hey we all make mistakes.”  Yet again Josh had a great start, but unfortunately his decision to go with a less aggressive groove proved to be a bad choice.  During the latter part of the race moisture started to rise out of the track in certain parts, creating a very slippery section.  “The grooving that I had, worked great in the part of the track that I rolled over in yesterday, but today it hurt me on the other side of the track coming out of the infield back onto the race oval turns 3 and 4.  I just misjudged that part of the track and it hurt me big time.”  Josh ended up spinning out twice in the same section and snubbing the truck out once, of which he couldn’t refire the truck up fast enough.  “The last thing I wanted to do is pump the gas, I didn’t want another Antigo episode again.”  Josh finally restarted his truck and finished in 15th place.

SUNDAY’S AFTERNOON RACE, ROUND #8;  HEAT STROKE!

With temperatures reaching 100 degrees for the duration of the time that Josh and his crew were in Kansas.  Josh got a mild case of heat stroke, and wasn’t feeling the best for the start of the race.  “I’m just not feeling good, I don’t know if its something in the air, I’m trying to keep myself hydrated as much as possible.  I will race to the best of my ability today.”  Josh started the race in 16th position yet again and worked his way up to a career best finishing position of 9th place.  “Glen was very happy with me, all I could think about was hitting my marks and not making any mistakes, it is very hard to pass on this track, but I feel really good about my finish today and we will use this information and learn from it for the races to come.”  Josh and his crew are set to race in Bark River, Michigan.
